Tornado Confirmed Near Belle Plaine
A tornado touched down at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday and was on the ground for about 2 miles.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down Sunday night near Belle Plaine.
The tornado touched down at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday and was on the ground for about 2 miles. It's rating? A weak EF-0 with winds of 65 to 70 mph. The maximum width was 50 yards.
It touched down in Le Sueur County and moved northeast at about 50 mph for .5 mile before moving into Scott County and traveling 1.5 miles. The tornado dissapated four miles south southwest of Belle Plaine.

The NWS said as is common with fast moving weak tornadoes, most damage was strewn in one direction, but with several separate indicators of convergent wind, it was a tornado. A downdraft paralleled the tornado and knocked down approximately two dozen trees.
Scott County law enforcement reported damage near Belle Plaine including a "roof torn blown off a house, shed down and a 48-foot grain bin blown into a field."
