Will It Hit 90 Degrees in Shakopee Today?

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high temperature of 88 for Shakopee today. That’s three degrees below the Twin Cities record-high for this day and 18 degrees above the average normal high.

The warm temperatures, coupled with low humidity and winds reaching 30 miles per hour, could add up to trouble later today, though.

The weather service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the Twin Cities metropolitan area, as well as parts of southern and central Minnesota and western Wisconsin for today and tonight.

“Dangerous fire weather conditions are expected to develop this afternoon as south winds increase to between 15 and 20 mph with gusts around 30 mph and relative humidities fall off to under 30 percent,” says the weather outlook.

In reference to burning restrictions, Scott County is considered as low risk—meaning fires are not easily started—on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ fire rating scale. The danger risk rises to moderate north of the Minnesota River, in Hennepin County.

So far in May, the Twin Cities has received 4.35 inches of rain, according to weather service records. That’s 1.85 inches more than normal. At this time last year, the Twin Cities had received 0.92 inches.

Looking at the weekend forecast, Shakopee is expecting a high of 86 degrees under party sunny skies on Saturday. Thunderstorms are likely Saturday night, followed by rain and a high of 70 on Sunday.

Saturday’s thunderstorms are not expected to be severe at this time, according to the weather service.
