911 Service Restored After 2-Hour Outage: Police

Authorities say 911 service in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center were restored by Monday morning after a two-hour interruption Sunday night.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — 911 service has been restored to all residents of Hennepin County after officials said there was a nearly two-hour service interruption on Sunday night.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, 911 service provider CenturyLink was having trouble with some of its land lines. A KARE report stated service interruptions were reported in Brooklyn Center and Minneapolis.

As of Monday morning, though, those issues had been fully resolved by midnight, the department said.

It's not the first time CenturyLink has had trouble keeping area 911 service up.

According to a Star Tribune report, nearly 700 dropped 911 calls were reported in about 65 minutes in Aug. 2018. The report noted that CenturyLink is now in the fourth year of a five-year, $29 million contract to provide 911 services in Minnesota.
