How to Dodge a City Fee, Road Construction, and a Cute Kitty
Five things about Southwest Minneapolis that you need to know for Tues. July 23.

1) 50th Street Resurfacing
The good news, if you live along 50th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet, is that some of those potholes, bumps and cracks—ditches, really—in your street will get a bit of a repair this year. The bad news, as with all road projects, is that you'll have to help pay for it in a big way. At 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the City Council's Transportation & Public Works Committee will hold a public hearing on the special assessments to be levied as part of 2014 property taxes to help pay for the $190,000 project. Residents living along that stretch of 50th will have to pay $0.20 per square foot in their lot. Assessments over $150 will be spread out over 5 years.
2) Dodge a City Fee for National Night Out
Planning a block party for August's National Night Out? Make sure to register with the city by the end of the day on Tuesday, otherwise you'll have to pay to have the police close off your street for the evening. Police officer visits can be requested when you register, and Fire Department visits should be requested via 311.
3) "Aladdin" Field Trip Deadline
Want to take your kid on the Park Board-organized Aug. 2 trip to the Stages Theater's production of Aladdin, Jr.? Make sure to register by Friday, July 26 through the MPRB website or at the Armatage, Pershing, or Linden Hills Park rec centers.
4) Art and Garden Tour
This Saturday, Tangletown Gardens is hosting their annual Art & Gardens tour. Buy tickets in advance and save $5 off of the $30 same-day cost. The tour—typically quite bikeable—showcases 9 gardens around the Twin Cities, paired with fantastic works of art.
5) Wild Rumpus has a new cat!
Stop by Linden Hills' Wild Rumpus bookstore and meet their new cat, "Booker T." All together now: "Awwwww!"
