MINNEAPOLIS — The roof of the 36-year-old Lake Harriet Bandshell will be repaired this fall. The wood shingles are deteriorating and need to be replaced.

The roof of the concessions stand building — which houses Bread and Pickle — will also be repaired.

A preliminary analysis shows that both buildings are still structurally sound, and bandshell entertainment will continue as normal this summer.

According to city officials, lakeside entertainment has been a feature at Lake Harriet since 1888. During that time, two pavilions burned down and one was wrecked by a tornado. A third was built with the intention of it being only temporary but lasted 60 years.

The current bandshell is the fifth at Lake Harriet. It was built in 1986.

A bidding process for the roof repairs will begin this summer. Repairs are set to begin once Bread and Pickle closes for the season.
