Lake Nokomis E. Coli Levels Remain High After Sewage Release

E.coli levels remain "elevated beyond what is typically recorded" at Lake Nokomis during the summer months, officials said.

MINNEAPOLIS — Lake Nokomis beaches will remain closed through the weekend after a sanitary sewer line backed up and released sewage into the lake on Monday.

E. coli levels remain "elevated beyond what is typically recorded" at Lake Nokomis during the summer months, the Minneapolis Parks Board said.

"To protect public health, both Lake Nokomis Main Beach and Lake Nokomis 50th Street Beach will remain closed through the upcoming weekend."

Minneapolis Park staff are scheduled to collect and test lake water samples at the beaches on Monday and provide an update on water quality conditions the following day.
