Man Kills Sister, Shoots Mother, Then Himself In Minneapolis Apartment: Police

Police say a domestic dispute in south Minneapolis ended with two siblings dead and their mother wounded.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Two siblings are dead and their mother is recovering from injuries after a domestic-related shooting inside a south Minneapolis apartment early Tuesday, according to police.

Officers responded just after 12:30 a.m. to the 100 block of East 59th Street, where they found a man and a woman, both in their 20s, dead inside the home.

A woman in her 40s was also found with apparent non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the deceased individuals were a brother and sister. The injured woman is their mother.

According to police, preliminary evidence suggests a domestic dispute escalated into gunfire. Investigators believe the two women were shot and that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"This appears to be a heartbreaking tragedy that has destroyed a family," O’Hara said Tuesday. "While the investigation is ongoing, our hearts are with the surviving family members as we work to understand what occurred."

The names of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, along with the official cause and manner of death.
