Thousands Still Without Power In Twin Cities Friday

More than 80,000 Twin Cities residents woke up in the dark Friday after severe storms.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Power has been restored to thousands of customers in the Twin Cities Friday but just over 21,000 customers are still without electricity after severe weather moved through the region early Friday morning.

According to Xcel Energy's power outage map, 21,068 customers remain without power as of 2:45 p.m.

"Hundreds" of trees and "countless" power lines came down across Inver Grove Heights, Eagan, and Rosemount, Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins said.

Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for the area in the early morning hours and the National Weather Service reported a wind gust as high as 64 MPH at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport.

Xcel Energy was encouraging people to check its power outage map for updates.
