‘Sickening’ Violence: 7 Shot, Woman Dead After Boom Island Party

Officers say the violence erupted during a large gathering at the park.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A woman is dead and six other adults were injured after a shooting broke out during a large gathering at Boom Island Park on Sunday night, according to Minneapolis police.

Officers responded to the area near 11th Avenue NE and Sibley Street NE around 9:30 p.m. and found a woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where she later died.

  • Two men were taken by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare with gunshot wounds
  • One man was transported by EMS to North Memorial Medical Center
  • Two men who arrived at hospitals on their own, one at Hennepin and one at North Memorial
  • A woman was taken to Hennepin with minor injuries, though she was not shot

One of the men hospitalized at Hennepin is in critical condition, police said. The other five victims had non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting followed a large gathering in the park that escalated into violence. Officers canvassed the neighborhood for evidence, and forensic specialists processed the scene.

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.

“My thoughts are with all those who are affected by this outrageous act of violence,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “The level of violence displayed in this shooting is absolutely sickening, and our investigators will work diligently to bring whoever is responsible to justice.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased woman’s name and the official cause of death.
