Local Man Arrested at Restaurant With Multiple Stolen Wallets

A Southwest Minneapolis man has been charged with using stolen credit cards to pay bar tabs and make other purchases around the Twin Cities.

Farhan Mohamed Aden, 28, of the Kingfield neighborhood, is charged with felony credit-card fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Minneapolis police were called to Rosa Mexicano in downtown Minneapolis on Nov. 4 on a report of someone using a stolen credit card, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Investigator Charles Nathan.

A bar employee told officers that Aden had used what he believed was a stolen credit card and pointed him out to officers.

Police asked Aden about the card, and he said it belonged to his sister, and he had her permission to use it, according to the complaint. When police searched him, they found two wallets, both containing cash and numerous credit cards in the names of other people.

Police contacted the victims, who confirmed that their wallets had been stolen.

Aden subsequently admitted to police that he had used a stolen card to make an $11.33 purchase at Rosa Mexicano, the complaint says. He also admitted using another stolen card to make a purchase at Target; the owner of that credit card said the card was used Nov. 4 at the Holiday Inn Metrodome to pay for a $182.63 purchase, according to the complaint.

Aden has been released from custody on a $3,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Dec. 12 in Hennepin County District Court.
