'Storms Are Speeding Up': Severe Storm Warning Issued For Twin Cities

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Twin Cities metro area Thursday.

TWIN CITIES, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Twin Cities metro area Thursday.

"Storms are SPEEDING UP and could arrive 30-40 mins earlier," the NWS said on social media. "The main threat will be damaging winds up to 60 MPH winds."

The warning includes Hennepin, Dakota, Scott, Anoka, Carver, and Ramsey County. The forecast shows a high probability of damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

"For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building," the warning states.

The NWS advised that Minnesota State Fair attendees take shelter immediately.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers' season opener against the North Carolina Tarheels has been pushed back to 8 p.m.
