Minneapolis Man Faces Criminal Charges In Hit-And-Run on 30th Ave

Henry Lee Brown, 54, is facing two counts of criminal vehicular homicide after a Thursday crash that left one man dead.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minneapolis man is facing two counts of criminal vehicular homicide after a Thursday crash that left one person dead.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced Monday Henry Lee Brown, 54, was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk on Friday, one day after a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian, 49-year-old Larry J. Johnson, dead.

Citing a criminal complaint, the county attorney said Johnson was crossing the street at 30th and Morgan Avenues North around 5:40 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a white Ford Edge, which went on to run a nearby stop sign. Johnson was found dead on scene.

Brown was arrested the following day after his girlfriend called police, authorities said.

The county office said Brown's girlfriend told authorities she saw someone lying in the street near the intersection where the crash had occurred while on her way home. When she got home, she found Brown drunk in the seat of her Ford Edge.

Brown told his girlfriend he "had hit something with her car," officials said.

The following day, the girlfriend called police after seeing reports on the news about a hit-and-run. According to the complaint, the office said Brown admitted to investigators that he had been drinking but that he did not "remember hitting a person."

Brown is set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, authorities said.
