Watch: Funeral For 8-Year-Old Annunciation Student Fletcher Merkel

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Family and friends will gather Sunday afternoon to honor Fletcher Alexander Merkel, 8, of Minneapolis, who was killed in last week’s shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church.

The funeral service is taking place at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue South, in Minneapolis.

The family asked those attending in person to "please wear bright colors."

Fletcher’s obituary described him as having “sparkling blue eyes, freckles, blonde hair that often defied gravity and an infectious smile.”

He loved football, basketball, Lego creations, cooking with his parents, and exploring the outdoors. He traveled widely with his family and was looking forward to attending his first Packers game at Lambeau Field this fall.

He is survived by his parents, Mollie and Jesse; his siblings; his dog, Clementine; and extended family.
