Where Have All the Monarchs Gone? and More: Stillwater Week Ahead

What can we do to bring back the Monarch butterfly? University of Minnesota professor Karen Oberhauser leads a 'Conversations in the Valley' session Tuesday titled Dwindling Numbers for an Iconic Insect: A Conservation Biologist Ponders Moving Beyond the Documentation of Declines on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Banquet Center, 301 S. Second St., Stillwater. 

Here are other events during the coming week, as listed at the Stillwater Patch events page: 

On Monday at 6 p.m. Stillwater Public Library, St Croix Valley Gifted welcomes Dr. Deborah Ruf, Ph.D., local expert on giftedness, for a presentation and discussion about her book, 5 Levels of Gifted: School Issues and Educational Options.

The Stillwater City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stillwater City Hall. 

On Thursday, Oak-Land Junior High School will be open at 7 p.m. for 
Pony Community Activity Center. Come for family swim in the pool, get your heart pumping on the indoor hall walking route, or visit the new weight room and use the fitness equipment. It's free but register in advance online. (You can also register at the door but a nominal fee will be charged and entry to some activities will be on a space-available basis.) Check the schedule of offerings and locations (including Friday at Stillwater Junior High). 

Looking ahead to the weekend: On Friday, see Showcase - A Variety Show at Stillwater Area High School auditorium. Cost: $6 for students/seniors, $9 for adults. Ticket hotline: 651-351-8109.
