PowerUp Kick-off Event Will Attempt to Break Guinness World Record

Lakeview Health is hosting a "We PowerUp the Valley" kick-off event Saturday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Stillwater Junior High.

The event will include an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people doing the Cha Cha Slide in one place.

The Cha Cha Slide World Record attempt will happen at 9 a.m. sharp, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early between 7:45-8:30 a.m.

The PowerUp Kickoff event is a chance to share new ideas on how fun it can be to PowerUp our families, ourselves and the entire St. Croix River Valley community, according to Lainie Steffen of Lakeview Health.

Lisa Rambo, the Hudson High School special education assistant who is  and was runner up for the "at home challenge" will be at the event. She lost 108 pounds during the show.

Attendees will also get to meet the new PowerUp Masco—the St. Croix Valley’s own Super Hero—and find out his name for the first time. Radio Disney will also be on hand to provide dance exercise and music.

The event is rain or shine.

The event also captures the growing energy of 14 local elementary schools that have rolled out the PowerUp School Challenge program.

The School Challenge is a fun 4-week interactive and powerful program designed to help elementary age students increase fruit, veggies and physical activity.

Schools with the highest participation in the Cha Cha Slide World Record Attempt will have a chance to receive up to $500 in PowerUp Bucks for wellness supplies, equipment or resources for their school.

Since the summer of 2012, PowerUp has been working with community partners to make it easy, fun and popular for kids and families to eat better and be more active.

“PowerUpis Lakeview’s long term commitment to helping our community work together to prevent childhood obesity and help our youth thrive,” said Marna Canterbury, MS, RD, Lakeview’s Director of Health and Wellness.
