St. Croix 360: Capturing a Sense of Place with Short Videos of the River

Greg Seitz over at St. Croix 360 has been doing some neat experiments with short videos—specifically Vine— in and around the St. Croix River valley.

“There is something hypnotizing about Vine, the short looping videos recently launched by Twitter,” Seitz wrote. “Six seconds hardly seems long enough to show anything, but somehow they are able to create a portrait of a place.”

“What’s great about the brevity of these videos,” Seitz wrote, “is that they should be just enough to pique your curiosity and inspire you to get out and find some running water of your own!”

With summer officially arriving Friday, June 21, and a cold, rainy spring hopefully behind us, there’s been a lot of chatter on social media about getting out on the river for the first time—and exploring channels and areas of the St. Croix that aren’t easily accessible to boaters after water levels drop.
