The one-year ban would not affect two Stillwater businesses that currently sell CBD products, according to a report.

During that time, officials are expected to study how to best alter ordinances and the City Code to “regulate the sales, testing, manufacturing and distribution of cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD) for medical, recreational and other purposes,” according to the interim ordinance.

“The City will be undergoing a study regarding CBD and cannabis uses. No zoning or licensing applications will be accepted until the City adopts regulations regarding these uses, or for a period of one year, whichever occurs first,” the interim ordinance reads.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is an ingredient in hemp and marijuana that does not have the same effects as THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. The sale of CBD products is legal in Minnesota.

The ordinance would not affect Medicinal Blends Modern Apothecary and CBD House, the only Stillwater businesses that sell CBD products, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports.
