Stillwater School Board Appoints New Member To Fill Vacancy

It's the second time the Stillwater school directors have had to plug a hole on the board in less than four months.

STILLWATER, MN — The Stillwater Area Schools Board of Directors appointed a new member last week to fill a vacancy created by a former member’s resignation. It’s the second time it has had to plug a hole on the board in less than four months.

Vivian Votava, a principal quality engineer at DiaSorin, was chosen Oct. 7 to succeed former member Matt Onken, who resigned from the board in mid-September over political divisions, the Stillwater Gazette reports.

Votava’s term will end after the district holds an election in November 2022 to fill the vacancy, according to the report.

She is the second person appointed to board in the past few months, with Christopher Kunze chosen in late August to succeed former board member Liz Weisberg after her resignation this summer.

Kunze took the oath of office at the Oct. 7 meeting before voting to appoint Votava to the board, the Stillwater Gazette reports.

David Taylor and Kelly Bowen also sought the seat that will be filled by Votava, the report states. Votava is expected to take the oath of office next month following a required 30-day period for residents to file petitions against the appointment.
