8 St. Louis Park Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Chosen from a group of 1.5 million students, National Merit Semifinalists will move on in the prestigious scholarship competition.
ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — Eight St. Louis Park seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists this week.
More than 1.5 million students annually apply for National Merit Scholarships. When students take the PSAT they are automatically entered into the fray. Less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors become semifinalists.

Only 16,000 students earn National Merit Semifinalist distinctions annually. Semifinalists can full the requirements to become finalists and compete for scholarships.
"Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship," the academic organization states.
