BSM Seeks Two State Soccer Berths

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys and girls squads both play in the section finals tonight.

It could be a red and white soccer party tonight in St. Louis Park.

The boys and girls soccer teams are both playing for state tournament berths on their home field. The boys will lead things off at 5 p.m. against Waconia, then the girls will take on Holy Family Catholic at 7 p.m.

BSM should be favored in both games, as each squad has a No. 1 seed. In fact, the girls are the top-ranked 1A team in the whole state, while the boys aren't far behind at No. 2 among their 1A peers.

However, the BSM squads will both be taking on teams that know how to pull an upset. On the boys side, third-seeded Waconia knocked off second-seeded Holy Family Academy in a semifinal shootout, while on the girls side No. 3 seed Holy Family Catholic upset No. 2 seed Orono in the semifinals, 3-1

The boys and girls state soccer tournaments are each scheduled to start on Oct. 26 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
