​Hail, Tornado Possible In Hennepin County Wednesday

The Hennepin County area has a 70 percent chance of rain late Wednesday, but no snow is expected.

HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN — Strong storms, hail and even a tornado or two are possible in Hennepin County between 3 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

In a hazardous weather statement, the NWS said severe conditions could develop after a cold front moves through the Twin Cities metro area Wednesday afternoon. Behind the front, wind gusts as high as 50 mph are possible.

The NWS has issued a wind advisory and tornado watch for nearby areas including Washington and Dakota Counties. No such advisories had been issued for Hennepin County as of 3:40 p.m.

High winds are still possible in the area, according to the NWS. During the storm, strong winds could blow away unsecured objects or take down tree limbs. Power outages are also possible.

The NWS recommends that residents secure outdoor objects and use extra caution when driving, especially if in a tall or high-profile vehicle.
