Inmate Dies At Anoka County Jail Thursday

To avoid any conflict of interest, the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.

ANOKA, MN — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Anoka County Jail.

On Thursday just after 1 a.m., detention deputies at the jail found an unresponsive inmate in his cell. Staff requested assistance from EMS and began actively administering life-saving measures.

The inmate was declared dead at the scene.

"This is a tragic situation in which we anxiously await the results of the investigation and the report from the medical examiner," Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family during this difficult time."

To avoid any conflict of interest, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, along with the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
