City Recognizes 'Outstanding Citizens'

Mayor Jeff Jacobs said the three people honored at Monday's City Council meeting "personify what it means to be a St. Louis Park resident.” 

The council announced the inaugural recipients of the city's new "Outstanding Citizen" award: Ann Thomas, Bob Ramsey and Todd Brewer.

“There is a spirit in St. Louis Park that exists almost nowhere else," Jacobs said. “It’s a chance for the community to thank just a few of the people who have done remarkable things.”

Here is a brief look at the accomplishments of the three award winners:

Ann Thomas

Thomas stared “Day One,” which is an event put together to welcome students back to school in a unique way, showing local teenagers they are valued and that school is important. 

She has also raised money for the theater at the high school and helped local Girl Scouts sell cookies, and is currently a Parktacular volunteer.

An emotional Thomas said on Monday that she was "thrilled and honored and humbled” by the award.

"This community has brought so much to me, it’s only fair I gave back," said Thomas, who has resided in the Park since 1976. “It’s been a thrill to live here.”

Bob Ramsey

In is 40 years living in St. Louis Park, Ramsey helped start Children First, chaired Bookmark in the Park for five years and was chair of a senior summit at .

He has also worked with Parktacular and is a Senior Ambassador, along with his wife Joyce, for St. Louis Park. Additionally, he volunteers every year at "Day One."

“There's almost nothing Bob won’t do,” Jacobs said.

Ramsey said he's been inspired to give back by others in the Park.

“I’m honored by the award, but it’s easy when you have such great examples," he said. “We have a history of giving back and caring.”

Todd Brewer

Brewer was unable to attend Monday's meeting, but council recognized him nonetheless for being an active local business owner (of ) and Rotarian.

He helped bring the climbing rock to the , and routinely unloads holiday goods for and brings gifts to families in need. Brewer has also given—through his family foundation—funding to support children at .
