St. Louis Park's County Road 5 Will Be Reconstructed To Be Safer

A 2021 survey found that St. Louis Park residents worry about traffic speeds along County Road 5, otherwise known as Minnetonka Boulevard.

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — Hennepin County is in the planning phase of reconstructing County Road 5 — otherwise known as Minnetonka Boulevard — in St. Louis Park.

A 2021 Minnesota Department of Transportation survey found that residents worry about traffic speeds along County Road 5. Residents would prefer to redirect traffic to Highway 7 to help reduce congestion, according to the study.

  • Want better lighting and crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety
  • Want protected bike lanes
  • Say that the sidewalks are poorly maintained and don't feel safe

Construction for the County Road 5 project is slated to begin in 2024.
