Twin Cities Woman With 4 DWI Convictions Accused In Fatal Hit-And-Run

The crash killed an 84-year-old pedestrian in Brooklyn Center, police said.

MINNEAPOLIS — A woman with four drunk driving convictions is accused of fatally striking an 84-year-old pedestrian before fleeing the scene in the west metro.

Tammy R. Olson, 59, of Brooklyn Center, was charged in Hennepin County District Court last week with a criminal vehicular operation in the June 1 crash. Olson does not have a valid license due to her previous convictions, police said.

The crash killed Joyce Acosta, who also lived in Brooklyn Center, the Star Tribune reported.

If convicted, Olson faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

On June 1, just after 3 p.m., witnesses reported seeing a black Audi sedan strike a pedestrian walking across Xerxes Avenue near Bass Lake Road in Brooklyn Center, according to the criminal complaint.

The Audi immediately drove away after the crash, police said.

One witness told police that before the crash, the Audi was behind him at a nearby fast-food drive-thru. The woman driving the Audi was yelling at him for not moving through the drive-through lane fast enough, according to the criminal complaint.

At 8 p.m. that night, police arrested Olson at her home. She admitted to police that she drank a few alcoholic beverages before she drove that day, according to the criminal complaint.
