Blizzard Warning Issued for Wright County, STMA Schools Close March 18

The warning remains in effect throughout the day Monday, March 18, 2013.

5:30 a.m. March 18, 2013 - As the end of March draws closer, the end of the snow doesn’t appear to be happening any time soon.

From 1 a.m. Monday, March 18 to 1 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, Wright County remains under a blizzard warning, according to the Twin Cities National Weather Service forecast.

“A late season winter storm will bring a quick burst of 2 to 5 inches of snow from late tonight through early Monday across the region. This storm will drive a powerful cold front through Minnesota and Western Wisconsin by midday Monday,” according to the Twin Cities National Weather Service website Sunday evening.

A message was sent to parents Monday, March 18 informing them school would be two hours late. The message said:

Hello, this is Wayne Hoistad, Director of Technology and Transportation for the St.Michael-Albertville school district. School will be 2 hours late today Monday, March 18th due to the weather conditions. Thank you.

Winds could reach 25 to 35 miles per hour, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour causing “blowing and driving snow and visibility frequently down to one quarter mile or less.”
