Lightning Strike Shakes Albertville Home

A strike around 8:30 a.m. hit the home at 6827 67th Street NE, in the Towne Lakes area of Albertville.

A lightning strike shook two home and ignited a fire in one in the 6800 block of 67th Street Northeast in Albertville around 8:30 a.m. this morning.

Two residents at 6827 67th Street NE, Ashley Furstonberg and Chelsea Doyle, were able to escape the house after the bolt ignited a fire in the basement.

"I told [Ashley] we needed to get down to the basement because the storm was moving in, and all of the sudden it hit," Doyle said.

The two women, both 21, saw the flames in the basement and "took off" for a neighbor's house.

"I was actually in bed in our home and we felt it," said neighbor John Creed, who lives at 6813. "It shook our headboard. Next thing we knew, these two were at the door."

Albertville Fire and St. Michael Fire (responding on a mutual aid request) knocked down the flames in the basement and were airing out the residence by about 9 a.m.

Furstonberg, who said her parents own the home, said her mom and dad were in Canada at another home they own there.

"They're pretty shocked," she said.

The family has lived in the home since the area was developed about four years ago, Ashley said.
