Friday Night Lights: Knights Football Team To Play Lakeville South In State Semifinals
St. Michael-Albertville High is set to play Lakeville South on Friday night at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
ST. MICHAEL, MN — The St. Michael-Albertville football team booked its ticket to the state semifinals with a hard-fought win over Wayzata on Thursday.
The Knights topped the Wayzata Trojans 14-7 after senior running back Jarrett Bennett broke away for a 25-yard touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game, according to statistics from MN Football Hub.
Bennett was the star of the Class 6A state quarterfinal game at Park Center High School, scoring both of the Knights’ touchdowns and leading the team’s rushing attack with 84 yards on 14 carries.

Junior running back Conner Luongvan finished the game with 29 yards on 8 carries, while junior Brett Roos carried the ball twice for 10 yards.

The Knights’ defense stepped up in the low-scoring battle, holding Wayzata to just one touchdown — a 1-yard run with about 5 minutes left in the first half.
St. Michael-Albertville responded with a 1-yard touchdown run of its own before halftime, with Bennett punching the ball in for his first score of the game.

Senior quarterback Owen Neros completed six of 13 passes for 93 yards. Riley Purcell led the team’s receivers with two catches for 67 yards, while also converting both extra-point attempts.
St. Michael-Albertville is set to play Lakeville South at 7 p.m. Friday at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in the Class 6A state semifinals. Lakeville South beat Shakopee 42-28 to reach the state semifinals.
Maple Grove will play Eden Prairie on Thursday night in the other Class 6A state semifinal game.
