Relay for Life Begins Run Friday in Albertville

The St. Michael-Albertville Relay for Life will take over the track and football field at Middle School West Friday night.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of St. Michael-Albertville will take over the St. Michael-Albertville Athletic Complex, located at the Middle School West, Friday night. 

Events begin at 7 p.m. with opening ceremonies, and continue throughout the night on the track and infield (football field) until 8 a.m. Saturday morning. 

Former and current cancer patients, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations, and anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer are taking part in this exciting team event. The Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups–people from all walks of life–all aimed at celebrating the lives of those who have had cancer, remembering those lost, and fighting back against the disease.

“Relay For Life draws attention to the progress being made in the fight against cancer,” said Lisa Sell, St. Michael/Albertville volunteer Relay event chair. “Many participants are our family, friends, and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Their involvement helps brings hope that, together, we can eliminate cancer as a major health problem.”

  • 5 p.m. - Silent Auction Open for Bids
  • 7 p.m. - Opening Ceremonies
  • Dusk - St. Michael Daze & Knights Fireworks - it's wonderful to view over the luminaria lit track
  • 10 p.m. - Luminaria Ceremony & Remembrance Lap
  • 6 a.m. - Breakfast 

Events throughout the evening include:

  • Buca di Beppo - Spaghetti Eating Contest! Buy your 'lottery' ticket early! The contest is about 8pm
  • Scavenger Hunt throughout the night get some fairly fun and odd things to win some fun prizes and keep things lively as you get sleepy. 
  • Medallion Hunt returns as a fun way to spend an hour on the hunt!
  • Minute to Win It!  Have you been practicing?
  • Duct Tape Fashion Contest we'll bring the tape - you bring the idea to life!
  • Crazy Hat Lap in the wee hours of the morning - we are in search of the most outragious hat!
  • If you're hungry we'll have Walking TacosCandyHot DogsCorn on the Cob and Baked Goods. Bring cash. Proceeds benefit ACS.  
  • The Silent Auction starts at 5 p.m. Friday and runs throughout the night. Be sure to bid early and bid often!
