Reports: Brockovich to Host Fridley Town Hall Cancer Meeting in May

Fridley's cancer-cluster concern on Facebook has now hit local airwaves, news pages.

Now Brockovich plans to hear Fridley residents' concerns about local cancer rates at a town-hall style meeting that will likely be held in May, according to reports aired on KSTP-TV and published at the Star Tribune website Tuesday night.Β 

WCCO-TV also reported Tuesday night on the efforts of the .Β

A Minnesota Department of Health investigation found that that would be expected over the last decade. Earlier Tuesday a department investigator said he would as well.Β 

Brockovich's team is also looking into St. Michael cancer rates, after a resident reached out to her last month.

Though St. Michael's youth cancer rights are "on par" with the statewide average, two highly noted cases of rhabdomyosarcoma caught the eyes of both Brockovich's team and the state health department.

St. Michael, however, hasn't seen the environmental impact or abnormalties that Fridley has. Readings are consistently monitored around the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant (water, air and vegetation), the Becker SherCo plant and the city's water system, and none have raised red flags in recent years, according to both the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Xcel.

Due to that, Brockovich hasn't ranked St. Michael's cases in her "top 100" at this time, but Fridley's issues may draw more attention to the northern suburbs as a whole.
