Rollover Near Monticello Closes Westbound Traffic At Albertville

An erratic driver intercepted by Minnesota State Highway Patrol officers attempted to flee, and the pursuit ended with a rollover.

Traffic throughout Albertville was chaos Tuesdays morning after westbound Interstate 94 was closed due to a crash investigation near Monticello.

Accordingo to Highway Patrol Information Officer Eric Roeske, St. Cloud Dispatch took the call of an erratic driver a little after 7 a.m. this morning driving on 94 west of Monticello. When officers went to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled, resulting in a high speed chase.

That chase didn't last long, as the vehicle crashed into the median east of the County Road 18 exit and rolled. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. North Memorial airlifted the driver from the scene.

The freeway was limited while highway patrol officers and investigators reconstructed the accident. Minnesota Department of Transportation officials were also on scene to study the crash's impact on a fence that runs throught the median to prevent accidents from spilling over into the opposite lane. 

Traffic was completely closed off until around 9 a.m. By 9:15 a.m., one lane headed west was open on the freeway.
