St. Michael-Albertville Girls' Golfer Gets First-Ever State Tourney Berth

Kylie Slavin made history for the Knights last weekend, thanks in large part to a solid first round in the Section Meet.

For the first time in school History, will have a representitive at the Girls' Class AA State Golf Meet, set for June 12th and 13th at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Kylie Slavin shot an 83 and an 85 for a 168 total in the two day event. Kylie had really started playing well the last two weeks.

"She peaked at the right time," said Mitchell Harmoning, head coach of the girls' team. "Kylie’s mental focus and the fact that she kept her mistakes manageable were were biggest attributes these two days.  She didn’t take the huge number."

On Day One of the two-day Section Tournament at Grand National Golf Course in Hinckley. Kylie's 83 was her lowest of the year, and another school record.

Harmoning said Kylie "started off real well playing even par though the first four holes. She took a couple of bogeys to finish the first nine, but rebounded well by paring 10 and 11 to settle down. She also parred three of the last four to finish strong."

Thursday, in the section finals, Kylie started off nervous and tripled bogied the first hole. She recovered again and parred the next two holes and was able to relax a little bit, Harmoning said.

"A bogey and double on the next two holes were tough. Kylie battled a cold putter all day in round two. Her birdie on the par 3 6th, really helped out with confidence and score," Harmoning said.

Slavin's back nine was a grind. Seven straight bogeys were a  struggle. She had great bogeys and pars that got away, but her mental composure was awesome. She was focused and grinded thought the round all day. Kylie parred the last two holes to finish at 85.
