St. Michael-Albertville Knights Romp To Homecoming Victory

The Knights opened up a huge early lead Friday over the Champlin Park Rebels and never looked back, winning 44-8 on homecoming night.

ST. MICHAEL, MN — After nearly raining on Minnetonka’s homecoming parade at the start of October, the St. Michael-Albertville varsity football team gave Champlin Park no chance of doing the same on Friday night.

The Knights opened up a huge early lead Friday over the Champlin Park Rebels and never looked back, winning 44-8 on homecoming night.

Senior running back Max Keefer was the star of the game, scoring three touchdowns and picking up 182 rushing yards on 14 carries, according to statistics on MaxPreps. Senior Jarrett Bennett scored two touchdowns while earning 85 yards on 10 carries.

The team racked up almost 350 total rushing yards during the game, with 10 different players getting a chance to run the ball.

Senior quarterback Owen Neros posted a 100-yard game Friday, completing five of his eight passes for a 106.3 rating, according to MaxPreps.

Senior Riley Purcell caught two passes for 82 yards and converted six of his seven extra-point attempts. He also scored a 37-yard field goal.

Junior Cowin Underwood led the Knights' defense with eight tackles, followed by senior Zach Ewer, who recorded seven, according to MaxPreps.

In addition to his two rushing touchdowns, Bennett returned an interception 38 yards.

The St. Michael-Albertville Knights moved to 4-2 on the season after the team's homecoming victory Friday. The Knights are scheduled to play the 4-3 Maple Grove Crimson on Friday night. The game starts at 7 p.m. in Maple Grove.
