Storm Hits Albertville, St. Michael with Wind, Heavy Rain

Several homes were without power after a storm front brought wind gusts and heavy rain to the area around 7:30 p.m.

A summer-like spring day brought about a summer-like storm front Monday night, as a line of thunderstorms hit the St. Michael and Albertville area around 7:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning around 7:15 p.m. for northeastern Wright County, just as the storm was crossing into the Buffalo area.

Moving at 50 m.p.h., it didn’t take long to announce its arrival, with wind gusts clocked at above 60 m.p.h., according to National Weather Service reports.

Lights flickered, and more than a dozen households lost power in southwestern St. Michael. More widespread outages–up to 200–were reported as close as Maple Grove. Greenfield, Fletcher and Rogers also saw power knocked out, according to Xcel Energy.

Xcel worked through the evening and morning hours and had most customers in this area back online.

The storm provided a brief distraction from theand St. Michael-Albertville School Board meetings, which were also held last night.

Unofficially, St. Michael received about .2 inch of rain, which is the most precip the area has seen since the Feb. 29 snow day.

There were reports of some storm damage, including toppled grills and patio furniture, which had only recently been put to good use. A semi was blown off the road in between Albertville and Monticello. No injuries were reported there, as the truck blew off the westbound lane.
