Voters Reject New Levy For STMA Schools: Unofficial Results
Voters rejected the proposed levy by a large margin, with more than 57 percent voting "No" on the ballot question, unofficial results show.
ST. MICHAEL, MN — Voters shot down a new levy for the St. Michael-Albertville School District during the Nov. 2 election, according to unofficial results provided by the district.
Voters were asked to authorize a $7.9 million annual levy for the next decade to help the district stave off what officials called a "perfect financial storm" brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
Officials said the new levy would generate about $6.9 million each year from taxpayers and enable the district to receive an additional $1 million in state funding. The district said it lost $7 million in unrealized revenues and extra costs due to the pandemic, and "future budget projections are bleak" without voters' support.

Voters rejected the proposed levy by a large margin, with more than 57 percent voting “No” on the ballot question, according to unofficial results on the St. Michael-Albertville School District website.

The ballot question received 3,458 “No” votes and 2,533 “Yes” votes, unofficial results show.
The district said the results are not official until the school board canvasses them, which is scheduled for Nov. 8.
