Work To Resume This Month On I-94 In Wright County: MnDOT

ST. MICHAEL, MN — Drivers should prepare for intermittent lane closures on Interstate 94 between St. Michael and Albertville over the next few months as crews get back to work, officials said Monday.

Though much of the planned highway construction and repairs between the two cities have been completed, crews will be back in the area to finish work on the southbound side of the Highway 241 bridge, repair a barrier and clean up work areas, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

That work could cause intermittent lane closures during off-peak hours on Interstate 94 between Highway 241 and Wright County Road 19 (Main Street/Labeaux Avenue).

Lane closures are scheduled to start April 15 and continue until mid-June, MnDOT officials said.

Similar lane closures are also planned between Monticello and Hasty from mid-April to mid-August, while the Enfield Rest Area will be closed for the same period.

The construction on I-94 in Wright County is part of a $350 million project to repair roads and add lanes on I-94 from Maple Grove to Clearwater.

Minnesota transportation officials in November marked the imminent completion of construction between Maple Grove and Rogers after two years of work.

Crews reconstructed nine miles of roads between Maple Grove and Rogers from 2020-21 and are working to reconstruct six miles between St. Michael and Albertville and 15 miles between Monticello and Clearwater by the end of 2022, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

A roundabout at Highway 241 and O’Day Avenue has also been completed, though crews will soon return to finish improvements on the bridge and clean up the area, MnDOT said.

Former MnDOT Commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher said last year that the interstate will be "smoother, safer and better" for drivers once all work is completed.
