Wright County Schools Among Minnesota’s Top High Schools: US News

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN — Three Wright County schools are among the top 50 high schools in Minnesota, according to a recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report.

Delano High School is the best in the county, ranking 30th in Minnesota and No. 2,053 among all high schools in the country.

U.S. News & World Report ranked St. Michael-Albertville High School as the 33rd-best school in the state and No. 2,245 nationally, while Rogers Senior High School was ranked 47th in Minnesota and 2,944th in the nation.

Delano High School earned a grade of 88.49 percent on U.S. News & World Report’s scorecard, while STMA scored an 87.42 percent and Rogers Senior High School earned an 83.5 percent.

U.S. News & World Report analyzed 866 high schools in Minnesota for its 2022 list, meaning Delano and STMA ranked within the top 3 percent of all high schools in the state.

Buffalo Senior High School was ranked No. 167 in Minnesota and No. 9,346 in the country. U.S. News & World Report said Annandale Senior High School’s state rank was between No. 282 and No. 414 but did not assign a specific rank to the school.

Monticello Senior High School and Wright Technical Center were not ranked by U.S. News & World Report. The organization ranked 414 of the 866 high schools it analyzed in Minnesota.

High schools were ranked on six measures for this year's list: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, state assessment proficiency, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rates.

Data used in the 2022 ranking is from the 2019-20 academic school year. U.S. News adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact COVID-19 had on schools in the 2019-20 school year.

Husom To Retire After A Decade As Wright County Commissioner

Since most states closed schools for in-person instruction starting in March 2020 — typically just before most states conduct assessments — the U.S. Department of Education granted waivers allowing all states to forgo state testing for the 2019-20 school year.

To account for this, U.S. News relied on past assessment data from the three prior ranking years. Researchers also incorporated state science assessment data from the 2018-19 school year.
