• Watne named North Zone MREA Educator of Excellence (trftimes.com) — Thief River Falls residents can celebrate one of their own: Franklin Middle School principal Josh Watne has been named the 2025 MREA Educator of Excellence for the North Zone. A Lincoln High graduate, Watne credits local teachers and community members for shaping his journey and is recognized for creating immersive, empowering social studies experiences that inspire district students today. 
• East Grand Forks City Council proposes lowering potential tax levy increase to 8% (grandforksherald.com) — East Grand Forks leaders are moving toward an 8% property tax levy increase for the 2026 budget, down from earlier proposals as they balance spending and reserves. In other business, officials expanded the Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force to include the Thief River Falls Police Department, strengthening regional law enforcement cooperation that could affect drug enforcement efforts reaching into our community.
