Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:
- One person is dead and one other person is in critical condition after a shooting near Dollar General in Jackson. Police responded to a shooting at 7:00 a.m. when a man was discovered with gunshot wounds. Another victim who fled the scene was reported to be in critical condition and was transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing. (WLBT)
- How have gas prices changed in Jackson over the last week? Gas prices are currently ten cents less than the week before and about one dollar less than they were at this time last year. 42.3 million Americans are expected to travel for the weekend which is seven percent more than the previous year. Right now gas in Jackson is around $2.96 per gallon, the west coast is seeing the highest gas prices in the country with places in California and Arizona hitting five dollars per gallon. (WJTV)
- Interim Police Chief Joseph Wade says he wants to reduce crime, recruit and retain officers, and curb youth violence. His top priorities are helping the quality of life in the city go up and seeing crime go down. Wade hopes by introducing programs and activities for youth will keep them busy and out of trouble.
