The Jackson Fire Department says crews have to manage with hundreds of inoperable fire hydrants (wapt.com) — Jackson firefighters say they’re routinely working around hundreds of inoperable fire hydrants, relying on truck water and backup hydrants after finding a broken one at Last Call sports bar. JXN Water, now responsible for hydrant maintenance, reports thousands checked but many still missing or out of service, with full system assessment not expected until 2027.

Blackout for thousands in Jackson after crashes into equipment (wapt.com) — About 1,000 Entergy customers in downtown Jackson are without power after a vehicle crashed into electrical equipment late Saturday, darkening homes, businesses, and traffic lights from Gallatin Street to Lexington Avenue. Crews expect to restore service by 1 a.m., and residents are urged to avoid downed lines, report outages, and use flashlights instead of candles while workers monitor darkened intersections.
   

3. Two Mississippi cities rank among neediest in US (wapt.com) — Jackson ranks 31st among America’s neediest cities in a new WalletHub study, highlighting serious challenges around poverty, housing, health care, and internet access. The report, which also places Gulfport sixth, uses federal data to compare 182 cities nationwide and underscores how deeply Southern communities are affected by economic hardship.
   

4. Four arrested after Lawrence County drug bust (wjtv.com) — A Jackson resident is among four people facing $1 million bonds each after a multi-agency drug bust in neighboring Lawrence County. Officers say they seized meth, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, firearms, and a THC lab during the April raid, with two suspects arrested on-site and two more picked up later in Copiah County.
