Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:
- A suspect has been charged with murder after shooting and killing a man at a Jackson apartment complex. On Wednesday, a man was reportedly shot and killed at Pine Ridge Garden Apartments after an argument with multiple people. When police arrived at the scene, they arrested William Marshall, who was taken back to police headquarters for questioning. Marshall has since been charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle (WLBT)
- A UMMC doctor faces two counts of sexual battery of a vulnerable person. Dr. Mehul Dixit was arrested Thursday and appeared in court Friday after a report of an alleged incident, which took place in February and involved at least one patient at UMMC. During the court appearance, the judge set Dixit's bond at $300,000. Dixit has been terminated from UMMC and his medical license has been suspended. (WAPT Jackson)
- A local Food Depot has closed, creating a food desert in West Jackson. Food Depot was one of the largest grocery stores in the area, with many locals relying on the store for getting their weekly groceries. The newly-created food desert extends from the Bel Air Neighborhood to Virdin Addition and Presidential Hills. The Mississippi Association of Cooperatives is now looking at local farmers in the area who may be able to bridge the gap for residents who need closer access to food. (WAPT Jackson)
