- Tragic events unfolded on Sunday afternoon as a woman lost her life in an attempted murder-suicide incident. Authorities responded to a shooting on Wabash Street and Ohio Street, where they discovered the woman deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds following a domestic dispute. While investigating, Jackson police heard a gunshot nearby, which turned out to be the suspect who had shot himself. The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical attention, and no updates on their condition have been provided. The identity of the victim remains undisclosed. (WJTV)
- On Saturday, nearby Richland police officers responded to a distress call reporting a 1-year-old child choking and coughing up blood at a residence on Maxine Drive. Officer Mullins was the first to arrive and immediately initiated life-saving measures to clear the child's airway. With the assistance of two additional officers, they worked tirelessly until the child regained the ability to breathe on their own. Thanks to Officer Mullins' swift response, the child was transported to the hospital, treated, and later released, earning Mullins well-deserved praise for his actions. (WAPT Jackson)
- On Saturday, a newly opened biking trail in Jackson garnered support from the community, with individuals lining up their bikes in a show of commitment to health and wellness in the state. Dr. Justin Turner, the chief medical officer of the Mississippi Department of Health, emphasized that the trail's purpose is to encourage people to prioritize their well-being. The trail's launch coincided with the 10th annual Empowering Community for a Healthy Mississippi event, also known as "Let's Bike and Hike Mississippi," which took place on Meadowbrook Road. - It's National Boating Safety Week and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks shared a "hot topic" about the importance of having a fire extinguisher on your boat. Fire extinguishers are important safety equipment to have on boats because fire can spread rapidly. Remember to check that your fire extinguisher is operational and that the venting systems on your boat work properly. (Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks via Facebook)
