• Patrick Olon Clark (lawrencecountypress.com) — Monticello residents are mourning the passing of 48-year-old Patrick “Pat” Olon Clark, whose life was celebrated Dec. 15 at New Zion Baptist Church. A devoted family man, avid hunter, and classic car enthusiast, he faced cancer with strong faith and hoped his journey would inspire others. His family also thanks Deaconess Hospice and suggests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
   

• The Complicated Legacy Rod Paige Leaves Behind (seattlemedium.com) — Monticello native Rod Paige, born here in 1933, has died at 92 after a trailblazing and controversial career as the nation’s first Black Secretary of Education. The piece traces his journey from segregated Monticello and Jackson State to leading Houston schools and shaping the No Child Left Behind era, whose mixed legacy still affects classrooms today.
