Vicksburg passes vacant property registration ordinance (vicksburgpost.com) — If you own a vacant building in Vicksburg, you’ll now have to register it with the city, carry insurance or a bond, name a local manager, and pay escalating annual fees plus inspections. The new ordinance, effective immediately, sets upkeep standards for doors, windows, structure, vegetation and debris, with penalties for owners who ignore notices.
   

2. The Belle of Vicksburg- Lizzie Hert (vicksburgnews.com) — A haunting local history piece revisits the life and death of Lizzie Hert, a brothel madam who became known as the Belle of Vicksburg. Her final days unfolded in Vicksburg’s red-light district, under the care of St. Paul Catholic Church’s Father F.X. LeRay, and she was ultimately buried in an unmarked grave at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
   

3. Local waterways create unique environment for research (vicksburgpost.com) — Military researchers are testing new autonomous barge technology right on Vicksburg’s rivers, using a WWII-era barge from the Vicksburg District to demonstrate how it can move fuel and supplies with fewer people at risk. The project takes advantage of the Mississippi, Yazoo and Big Black rivers and could eventually support both national defense and civil works on waterways nationwide.
   

4. Vicksburg's Tyler Henderson signs with Kennesaw State (vicksburgpost.com) — A standout receiver from a Vicksburg-area high school, Tyler Henderson has signed with Kennesaw State after a dominant junior college season that led the NJCAA in receiving yards. He joins fellow Warren County product Garrett Orgas, who signed with Coastal Carolina, highlighting a strong year for local talent moving to four-year programs.
