WYATT, MO — A man is dead and nine others — including a six-month-old baby — suffered serious to life-threatening injuries after a home exploded in the tiny rural community of Wyatt in southeastern Missouri, according to police.

Emergency personnel responded about 7 a.m. Monday to the residence in the 500 block of Pecan Street, according to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office, which reported 10 victims at the scene ranging in age from six months to mid-twenties. The injured people were taken to receive medical treatment, and one victim — a man in his twenties — later died at the hospital, police said.

The explosion was caused by a gas leak, according to the sheriff’s office, which reported the specifics remain under investigation.
