Iberia Rural Fire Protection District to Launch New Cadet Program
Iberia Rural Fire Protection District is launching a brand-new Cadet Program for students ages 13-17 who want to help their community.

Iberia, MO — Covering a widely rural area with open fields, timber and mostly residential areas, Iberia Rural Fire Protection District could always use more help to ensure the safety of the community by providing fire, rescue and first responders services. To train the next generation of volunteer firefighters, Iberia Rural Fire Protection District is launching a brand-new Cadet Program for students ages 13-17 who want to learn firefighting skills and help their community.
Cadet firefighters will receive the training on various aspects of the fire service and develop the skills necessary to respond to emergencies of all types. The fire department’s goal is for each cadet firefighter to eventually become an active adult firefighter.
An informational session for the Cadet Program will be held on Oct. 8 from 9-11 a.m. at the Iberia Rural Fire Protection District station located at 200 Firehouse Lane.

Students who attend the informational session will have the opportunity to learn more about the Cadet Program, check out fire trucks, gear, and equipment, and meet Iberia firefighters and ask questions.
“The Cadet Program is a good opportunity for students to learn something that will help the community,” said Jen Snow, Iberia Fire volunteer. “Cadets will gain a sense of responsibility and feel like they are part of a family.”

Iberia’s new Cadet Program will give students exposure to a wide range firefighting duties and responsibilities, including support for firefighters at certain calls as allowed.
Members of the fire department will strive to ensure that as each cadet firefighter obtains training, ambition, and the responsibility to provide a valuable service to their community and become a productive member of the community. As a team member, each cadet firefighter will have various duties to perform.
“We are excited to launch this program for students who are interested in providing a valuable service to the community while forming new friendships and experiences,” said Iberia Fire Chief Greg Onstott.
