Affton Schools Names New Technology, Information Director

A former Maplewood Richmond Heights principal has been named the Affton School District's Director of Technology and Information, the school district announced Wednesday. Dr. Robert Dillon's hiring was approved at the Board of Education's April 2 meeting, according to a news release from the school district.

He begins work in Affton on April 22, the release states.

“We are excited to have such recognized talent join the Affton School District team,” Superintendent Dr. Steve Brotherton said in the release. “I am confident that Bob’s established record of experience and innovation will help us achieve a new level of excellence in our schools and community.”

Dillon told Patch a lot of innovation will be coming out of the Affton School District over the next three or four years.

"I’m in a place where I’ve learned a lot about technology and technology integration over the past few years at Maplewood, and hopefully some of that knowledge, and some of my passion about that will transfer over to my work at Affton," he told Patch.

The Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School principal Dr. Robert Dillon resigned from his former post last month, and was placed on paid administrative leave until the end of his contract with MRH.

Dillon was recognized as an Emerging Leader by PDK (Phi Delta Kappa) International in September 2012. He was announced as a "20 to Watch" educator for the 2012-2013 school year just two days before his resignation at MHR.

He brings administrative experience from DuBray Middle School in St. Peters and Nipher Middle School in Kirkwood, according to the news release, in addition to serving as the co-found of EdcampSTL, "an annual 'unconference' that brings together those interested in learning and sharing more about best practices in education."
