Mesnier Primary, Gotsch Intermediate Schools have Character

On May 29, the Character Education Partnership (CEP) named both Mesnier Primary School and Gotsch Intermediate School Promising Practice in Character Education. 

The recognition means each schools gets to showcase innovative best practices that are having an impact on the students and school. It's part of a nation-wide honor.

“These best practices offer educators and others working with young people practical ways to develop empathy, conflict resolution skills, and good citizenship,” said Lara Maupin, Program Director. “CEP is excited about being able to recognize these educators and share their work with others around the world.”

Mesnier Primary was recognized for its “Hero Training – What’s Your Super Power?” program. It taught kindergarten, first- and second-grade students about super hero behaviors to use t in every day life. It was also recognized for its attendance initiative called Here Everyday, Ready, On Time (HERO). 

Gotsch Intermediate received the recognition for “No Make Up Tuesday." It's a part of the week when female staff went without makeup to encourage their third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students to do the same each week, and help define true beauty for students.

About 262 Promising Practices were awarded to schools, districts, and youth-serving organizations from across the United States as well as from Canada, China, India, Mexico, and New Zealand.
