Deer Crashes Into Arnold EyeCare Center

Whether it couldn't see and was checking out glasses, or it saw itself in the window's refelction we will never know because a deer that ran into Arnold EyeCare Center was put down.

The optometrist office owners were contacted when its alarm sounded on May 10, just 30 minutes after the center closed for the day.

Witnesses report a deer crashed through the front bay window around 5:30 p.m, according to the center's Facebook page.

Jerri Birsinger, an eye doctor at the center as well as co-owner, arrived to examine the damage and discovered broken glass and traces of animal hair, along with a dismantled eyeglass stand and chair.

The startled deer attempted to get out the building the same way it entered, by shattering a second window. That failed but left the window shattered, and another attempt through a third window freed it.

The deer endured some broken legs during the ordeal and tried to run away but didn't get very far. Police were forced to put down the deer, according to the Arnold EyeCare Center Facebook page.

"Here are some photos of our office after a deer crashed in and toured our optical. The good news, no significant damage or theft (other than 3 windows); the bad news, the deer didn't make it."

Arnold EyeCare Center is located at 1235 Water Tower Place.
