Donated Wheelchairs Given New Life in Jefferson County

NextStep for Life wheelchair donation program provides "wheels" for Jefferson County residents who need a way to navigate through their world.

NextStep for Life’s Family Support Services, which provides help and support for disabled people in Jefferson County, recently donated 12 wheelchairs to Wheels for the World.

KidStart, one of the Next Step for Life programs, has a lending library of equipment for people in Jefferson County. The library includes manual wheelchairs, manual wheelchair parts, walkers, metal canes and metal crutches.

Equipment that needs repair or general rehabilitation work is donated to a group called Wheels for the World, where the wheelchairs are restored to like-new condition by inmates at correctional facilities and then re-distributed in developing countries where each recipient receives a custom fit chair.
